We do not allow teachers or staff to hold either the position of prez or veep. Otherwise than that, we have never had a problem with any teacher or staff member backing admin vs PTO. We may be lucky, but even our principal doesn't do it. If there is an issue too close, one that pits admin against PTO. our principal, teachers and staff, of their own accord mind you, do not vote.

I do have a problem with school district employees being on the exec board. Our school has a teacher rep on the board only not on the exec board and it's up to (him/her) to notify the staff of all PTO happenings and what do they need from PTO. He or she is their voice. This year we have 3 school employees on the exec board and I feel that's wrong due to bias feelings between their boss (principal)and obligation to PTO. A while back there was a problem that I noticed when I was new to PTO and there were 2 members of the exec board they would always hesistated or not speak up against a issue that was not in favor of the school admin.

Our bylaws allows for a faculty members to serve on the board. However, it also stipulates that they can only serve in the capacity of Parliamentarian or Counselor.

This year, we have two faculty and six parents. So far, we have a really good working relationship. Hope it stays that way.

Is there a rule that says it is a conflict of interest for teachers to be an officer in PTO??
Some parents in our district think that is one of our biggest problems. Our VP is a teacher, and several officers are employed by the district in some form either office, cafeteria, etc. What is your experience in this area? Is this a conflict of interest? Do most schools allow this to be the norm??? Would love to have some feedback on this issue.
