I am new to this forum and have a few questions you all hopefully will be able to help me with.
1. Overall, who is ultimately in charge of a PTO? Is it the Principal, President or Super.?
2. Who overseas what a PTO does? (i.e., reviewing bylaws, running elections, etc.)
3. Can an election for new officers be held without being open to parents?
4. Can an election be held and be voted on by only current officers for the upcoming year by "secret" ballot? (Making it unavailable for parents of the school to see how the voting went.)
5. Isn't it common practice to present people running for next years positions to the board and if it is not done, how can they vote if they do not know the people?
6. Can PTO meetings be "private" where no other parents can attend?
7. Can a PTO be run with previous years bylaws even though they were not read, reviewed and signed by the current PTO?
Please HELP....we have a PTO that are doing some things that some parents feel are unethical. We need some desperate help!!!
