The idea of two election is a double edged sword. It is definately the way to go in both our situations, but it is a real shame that it has to be that way at all. You would think that everyone could get along for the sake of the children, but I know that I have had an uphill battle everyday with my current vice president. I am anxious to be either on a board where everyone gets along (she doesn't get along with the other two officers either) or not on the board at all. I know the other two officers are not planning to accept nominations again if I am not voted back in. Maybe just for hoots and hollers, I'll be the thorn in everyone's side next year...lol...
I don't see why not! In fact I nominated my friend for VP. In our school, nominations are anonymous. We send home a form that just states if you or any parent would like to run for a position on our board............The forms are returned and only the names of the people you would like to nominate are on them. You could nominate yourself if you would like!! I do like the idea of two elections. You see my friend is the one that was offended by the president in "president offending parents". She refuses to come to any more PTO meetings until there has been an apology. Our problem is that if I lose the presidency, she does not want to be VP. In fact she said if she wins and I lose, she will refuse the position. I also know where your coming from about boards working together. Just look at ours!! Good luck in the election!
If the bylaws say nothing, can the president nominate someone for the positions of Vice Prez, Treasurer and/or Secretary?
We are in a strange position. With 5 people running for President, we are running it one month before the other positions. We are doing this because, depending on who is elected, it will make a difference in who accepts the nominations for the other positions. If I am re-elected, the current Treasurer and Secretary are willing to go one more term with me (we made a great team). The Veep, however, didn't get along with the rest of the Board, so her spot will be open if I win. The gal I would like to see fill the spot is relatively new to our school (I've known her for years). If re-elected, can I nominate her for the Veep position?
