Hi all....

I wrote the original post in hopes of finding help...It took some doing but we came up with a dissolution letter that was to be sent to all PTA members at our school and also to our state PTA. nicurn, our bylaws are the same as yours. We just did not know how to go about writing a letter of dissolution and wanted to make sure that we dotted all our i's and crossed our t's to be on the safe side. I just want everyone who reads this to know that this website has been extremely helpful to us as we start our new Parent Teacher Organization. Please wish us luck as we vote on dissolution on May 14, 2002!

Thanks

hi, our bylaws say:

Section 16. Any dissolution of a local unit and termination of its affairs shall take place in the following manner:
a: The executive committee shall adopt a resolution recommending that the local PTA be dissolved and directing that the question of such dissolution be submitted to a vote at a special meeting of members having voting rights. Written or printed notice stating the purpose of such meeting is to consider the advisability of dissolving the local PTA shall be given to each member entitled to vote at such meeting at least 30 days prior to the date of such meeting. Such meeting shall be held only during the academic year of the school involved.

it goes on to say that we have to notify the state president at least 20 days before the meeting and they have the right to come and talk for 15 minutes prior to the vote. It also says that you need 2/3rds vote to disolve (and a quorum)

basically, you have to let your membership know at least 30 days in advance of the meeting that you are going to vote on this, that way no-one can come back and say "hey wait a minute, they didn't do it right, I didn't know about it, etc". Good luck, definently look through your bylaws though before your meeting. maggie

I've never heard the term "dissolution statement." Is that something that you're seeing as a requirement in your bylaws?

Tomorrow night, our parent group will be voting on whether or not to dissolve our affiliation with PTA and become a PTO. I would also like to know about the dissolution statement.

Hello...I am new to this site but really need some help. Our PTA Board has decided to dissolve our local PTA at our school and assume the PTO name. I would appreciate and help on a sample dissolution statement. If you have one and can provide one please email it to me at This email address is being protected from spambots.
