If there is nothing in your Bylaws about the procedure of voting, check the end of the Bylaws and see if it says anything not covered in the Bylaws should refer to Roberts Rules of Order. I don't believe this is a proper way to handle an election of officer. Since there is more than one person interested in President, ballots should be counted at a meeting in a closed ballot. Good luck, we face the similar situation with both our Pres and VP position.
Hi Scooby Doo, I would have the same concerns. Our voting is done at a PTO meeting. Only paid members are allowed to vote, and the votes are counted right there. I wish you luck. We are in the same position of trying to make a change in our PTO for next year. Hopefully all will turn out as we like. Good Luck!
I have a question. We have 3 people on our nominating and election committee. One of them happens to be the president from 3 years ago. I am currently nominated for president against our current president, who has not been doing a good job. My problem is that the president from 3 years ago is the one who talked the current president into running again. I have had many problems with this little click. (Anyone interested should go to Day to Day PTO management-President Offending parents!) I talked with the principal and he says that votes will not be counted without him there but who is to say that if they are put in the past presidents mailbox (she works at the school) or the PTO mailbox that some votes for me might be "lost"? We have nothing in our by-laws regarding this. Does anybody know the proper procedure if the ballots are sent home and return through the students? We never have enough parents at the meetings 2 maybe 3 tops) to vote that way.
