I'm totally confused and need some answers please! We are in the process of applying for 501c3 (haven't yet sent anything in) but am now wondering if it is really worth doing, after reading some of the restrictions listed in the Discussion Forum. We do a fundraiser every school year which is really liked by everyone. However, it is a parent's business which means if we are 501c3 we couldn't do it, correct? (Unless of course she doesn't join our PTO - we do charge a membership fee, yes?). We also have a parent who wants to give us a cost-break at our Spring Carnival and set-up her snow-cone business, but this wouldn't be allowed either, correct? My question is what ARE the real advantages in becoming a 501c3? Our county has an education foundation, so all of our local businesses donate to that (in their minds they are donating to all the schools, not just one) so we don't anticipate or ever have received any large contributions. Please help!!! Many, many thanks!
