PTO President out of control

Three words:

LET HER SUE.

She must follow the bylaws and whereas I'm not really a betting woman, I'd wager that A)she needs approval for expenditures and B)she must have receipts on those approved items purchased. I say let her sue and make sure to check the dates on those items she does turn in.

Does she have reciepts to back up all these expenses also is there someone you can contact for legal advise- just in case?
I'm the Prez this year and our by-laws say I can't get a penny back unless I have a reciept. We also have a system that requires me to fill out a form that has both my signature and the treasurer.
$500!!! WOW! Did the kids get gold metals with their diplomas?? Gosh, I still get flack for the $100 that was approved to spend on the High School graduation!
See is you can seek some legal advise, in the meantime you may want to share this misfortune with the school admin to give them a heads up just in case-- they many be able to help with some answers without needing to step in. You may even want to let the school district know what she is trying to do... she got away with it at your school but do you really want to see her do this to another group? Food for thought.
Hang in there and you are doing a great job!!

Last years Pto President was out of control. She spent money like crazy and most of the time it was not with board approval. We did not realize this was happening until we took over the PTO this year and reviewed her books. Let's just say she could have thrown Black tie affairs for less money than she spent on our Christmas reception. Now, she wants to be reimbursed for money she spent on the Kindergarten graduation. She only $20.25 in the PTO account but spent $500.00. We only have 41 students and are a very small private school. She is not at the school this year. We have told her we are not paying her. She is threatening to sue us. What can we do?
