Before you go to the board, do some homework. I have learned to learn the rules before doing battle--call the school district. A couple years ago a few parents decided to raise some cain and the rest of us learned alot! First of all in some districts it takes the Board to disolve the PTO. It's not like your the Book Club and won't read his favorite book. The district has policies that, really, are very interesting.
Are his ideas any good? Does this guy realize his ideas need to be voted on just like everyone else's? How do the members feel about what you has heard?
When you do decide to talk to the board, talk to one member first so they know what you are needing, make an appointment (ask permission in advance-helps get you on the adgenda) and to be organized and not being petty is everything.
Maybe he just wants to be involved? I'm sorry, mother of four so I'm always looking at ALL the possiblities! Remember how a toddler screams and screams and all he needs is some juice? That maybe the case here?
Okay Lots to think about... Let me know if he needed juice or a lesson in playing fair!
mesch i think you should go to the school board and if they don't help you go to the superintent (spelling ?) and see what rights you have I can't see why the principal wants to act like that the pto is a great organization for parent and teacher involvement with school function so they can get to know one another good luck let me know how it goes
Hi everyone,
I have been reading posts and replys trying to find anyone going through what we are right now. We are 6 officers, trying to get a PTO going, last year we feel like we worked hard and accomplished a lot. This year we intended on adding a few things, some minimal money makers, some not. Our principal came to us asking for funding for some new ideas he has, yet he is now saying he won't allow us these new ideas we have that will help fund his new ideas! He told me if he had any concerns, or questions he would email me, I have yet to get one from him. Hear say is, the other night he told two of my officers, that if we went ahead on anything he didn't totaly approve of he would get rid of the PTO. Our first yearly meeting with the whole school (haha) is on thursday, he has yet to contact me on any concerns and we were preparing to open our ideas up and make them comon knowledge at the meeting. I intend on going in to school on monday to discuss this with him. but I am afraid he is going to pull the I will get rid of the PTO again, if he does we are all ready to walk, we feel very unapprciated and hurt. but I don't want to walk out on the kids! they loved what we did last year! We also have a nice sum of money in the acct we intend on using for the kids as well as keeping a surplus as start up $$ for activities. sorry this is so long!! OK so down and dirty,, CAN he "get rid of" us? if we are seperate how can he? I keep hearing we can't ask the parents to do this and that, WE ARE THE PARENTS! I really need help form you gals that are so experienced!! I don't know where to look for state regs as this goes. I am known at the district office. do I call them adn ask if we can be "let go"? and how can you "fire" a volunteer group? that hassn't done anything wrong? ok thanks everyone I will stop now.. any and all input is GREATLY appriciated!!!
