We have had this question raised to our group before and some of the school in our local area do donate but from what I have seen on this site before - If you are a non-profit group then you are not suppose to donate to another non-profit group. That not what you are truly raising your money for.
In our city if you sponsor a team it pretty much means you write the check for the shirts. Is it your own school's children? Is there any way they could get a business to sponsor them? I just worry that PTO was too easy to ask and maybe they did not even look into the business community. All our teams are "business sponsored". As far as your liability most "teams" have the parents waive responsibility of the sports program and have to provide medical insurance id. Those are the questions I would ask.
Our PTO has been asked to sponsor a little league basketball organization . I was not present at the meeting they voted on this. I am the vp and the treasurer was not present either due to conflicting schedules. I am against this idea because I do not think the PTO should be involved in this. I need some input on this. I do not think this person gave enough info on exactly what they want us to do. I would like to put this up for a revote at our next meeting because at the last one they approved it. Can anyone tell me how to do this without making some one mad? I told them I would be glad to help run concession and anything else they needed help on. I am just worried that the pto would be liable for lawsuit if anything should happen.
