Does anyone at the center school want those documents? I can imagine you going in to drop them off, and the people there looking at you like you were crazy -- or just putting the stuff in the recycling when you left. I wouldn't spend much time/money making copies, but you could make copies of the digital stuff and send it in.
I don't think you should try to transfer the 501c3; the exempt purpose (supporting school X) will change, which probably requires filing something, and I think it's against the intent of the laws, though it might be legal.
My son attends a small special needs satellite school that's been downsizing over the past few years. I am the Treasurer of our PTO. In 2 weeks the school is closing it's doors for good. All loose ends have been tied up and end-of-year reports have been distributed.
The school is one of many satellites under one center school, which still exists. I have 7 years worth of documents, both hard copies and digital. Should I alone hold onto all of this, or should I give copies to the center school, whom we have rarely dealt with?
We are a 501C3 non-profit. My son will be attending another school which has no PTO, and my husband and I would like to start one up. Is it possible to transfer our 501C3 to another PTO if we change the name of our Corporation to the new school PTO?
I am in the dark about how to end all of this. Any help would be appreciated.
