Thank you!
I have been against the voting via email issue because in my opinion it makes the board's behavior seem "shady". We just elected new officers and the new President has voiced her intention to use email voting more often. Only board members are being allowed to vote--not the entire PTO group which I also see as a mistake.
Sounds like your group is getting ready to elect new officers. Great news! We'd recommend, however, that you try to hold the election without email voting. It is very hard to track, confirm votes coming in are legit., and keep everything above board when using email.
But we also hear what you are saying in terms of how busy everyone is. If you advertise a lot ahead of time for the upcoming vote, you may get a number of people to vote in person.
Having said all that, you might consider amending your bylaws to include email voting in the future. You could come up with a specific set of rules (designating a certain timeframe, etc.) that must be followed to ensure the election goes well and everyone is comfortable with it.
With the fast paced world we live in now days, where people stay in contact using Ipads and smart phones. Is voting via email on PTO issues legal? The issues are not being emailed to the entire PTO for voting--only the board members.
