PTCmom-
Yikes. Sounds like the wild, wild west! Sorry to say that there are not legal ramifications but there are most definitely ramifications when it comes to parent involvement. I am sure we don't have to tell you that ; ) I would suggest getting another parent or two who share your concerns and go the the principal (again). In a matter-of-fact manner lay out the issues and let the principal know that these are affecting the school community, people's perception of the school and parent group and ultimately your ability to help the school and the kids. Think the key is to approach in way that is not drama-filled or so it seems like a personal attack on the individuals on the PTC board. Just the facts. We'd love to hear how this turns out!
I am in the state of California. Does anyone know what legal ramifications there are for NOT violating bylaws? For example; changing bylaws without approval of the GENERAL membership, PTC president telling people they cannot run, PTC boardd hand picking who will be elected, not notifying the ENTIRE school community about special meetings being held and election information. This is just a few that I could think of off hand. I have tried to address this with the principal but I want to propose to them the consequences if they do not adhere to the bylaws. We have a real problem of strong arming and the principal is not helping.
Any advice from thos in the Golden State would be great!
