Treasurer is not on account, her husband is

13 years 11 months ago #155447 by gjcoram
Does she still have a child at the grade school? I wonder why the grade school PTO hasn't gotten her off the account. Does she think she shouldn't be treasurer of both, or that there's some rule against it? -- maybe that's why the husband is on the middle school account.

Was it the old president who added the husband to the ms account? (Most banks won't let you just add yourself ...)

Without guidance from by-laws, your officers will have to determine how to proceed and who has a vote in the matter.

Perhaps the officers will decide to censure the treasurer and give her "x" number of days to remove herself from the grade school account and remove her husband from the middle school account. Perhaps the officers will decide that the best course of action is to encourage the treasure to resign. Or, perhaps the officers will create a motion to remove the treasurer from office by vote.

Whether the general membership has a vote on these matters is entirely up to the officers in light of the absence of by-laws. But, I do encourage you to remind the officers to choose an action that will minimize the affect on the treasurer's child(ren). Because of this, a general membership vote should be the last choice after all other options are exhausted.

Be warned, that the treasurer could also point to the lack of by-laws to justify her actions by claiming that there isn't anything in writing stating that she can't do what she did.

Naturally, after all is said and done, the next job of your parent association board is to develop and adopt by-laws!

I just found out that our local middle school PTO is haveing some real issues with the treasurer situation. I just found out that our middle school pto treasurer is still on the account for the grade school PTO treasurer account and her husband is on the middle school pto treasurer account instead. The husband is not an officer of the pto. The president and the treasurer were supposed to be the only ones on the account, to everyone elses knowledge. Now the president knows why the treasurer has been having her sign the checks first and not signing in front of her. Also, i was curious if the whole thing about the 2/3 vote to remove an officer was limited to just officers for voting or are the parents aloud to be in on the vote. As far as we all know there are no by-laws set up for this pto. The president has just quit the pto after 6 plus years of support and being an officer for 2 plus years. What should we do about all this?
