I am dealing with that right now and I went to the advisors for the high school (because my daughter is in the high school) and asked them to help with our auction because 3 high schoolers received money from the PTO for summer programs but they don't contribute any help. I had every advisor get back to me and they are collecting items for gift baskets to donate. You have to approach as a give and take and the parents are pretty busy these days so the students need to step up and in high school they are capable of helping out with fundraisers. We had our bookfair a couple of weeks ago and had a curious george costume to use and they couldn't find anyone to wear it so I took a student who is very capable of being a character and doesn't really have alot of friends. He did such an awesome job the principal and the parents couldn't believe his talents. He also has a new group of friends. Talk to the class advisors and I'm sure that will pull the high school into being more active.

we also have a parent group that support a one school from k thru high school. The first few years we dealt with the same issue as you with the elem parents doing the majority of the work and the elem kids doing most of the fundraising. So after meeting with administration from the middle/high school bldg. We came up with a distribution system fundraiser money. We calculate the percetenage of participation from each building and divide the money up that way. So if the total amount raised from a fundraiser is $5000 and the total % of students from elem accounted for 80% of that total they would have $4000 available towards request and the middle/high school would have $1000 avail to them. That is what we came up with that was the fairest for all involved.

We are running a K-12 PTO and having a very difficult time....it has been K-12 for 15 years plus. However, times are changing with budget cuts and more requests. We have little to no involvement from the high school, but we are still supporting their requests. Does anyone else run K-12? Is it possible to run effectively and fairly? We have 1 high school rep on our board and one from the middle school, but in the end it is the elementary parents doing all the work. We do not want the middle school or high school to suffer, but quite frankly we are tired (really tired) of doing all the work.
