In the revenue procedure bulletin released yesterday, there were two levels of fees listed for those who use Cyber Assistant. The much publicized fee of $200 is in there for those who use Cyber Assistant "prepared by an Authorized Cyber Assistant Host," but then it is listed as being $850 "After Cyber Assistant Availability if NOT Prepared by an Authorized Cyber Assistant Host."
So, the question is will these authorized hosts charge a fee?? I couldn't find the final approved application to be a cyber assistant host, so I couldn't tell if, as part of the application, they ask companies if they plan to charge some sort of processing fees or if they put any limits on such fees. I talked with two different IRS agents today, and they have not yet been trained on this issue, so no answers there. They couldn't even tell me if application process was still available for companies to file to be considered a Cyber Assistant Host. However, just like H&R Block and others charge individuals some sort of fee to file your tax return electronically, I would expect some kind of charge. Let's just hope it's not $650 or more!
And they are still saying Cyber Assistant will be available sometime in 2010.
Maybe PTO Today could apply to be a Cyber Assistant Host?
