One big con is that there will be an on-going issue with conflict of interest, both on the parts of the board members of the consolidated PTO and the parents of the students. Both will be naturally inclined to put their child's school first when it comes to fundraising and distribution of resources.
As an example, imagine the reaction of parents at schools "A,B,C, D, and F" when told that the their annual fundraising profits will go out of their communities to purchase new playground equipment at school "E". At the sametime, "A & C" have been waiting years for new computers, "B & D" seriously need their library budget supplimented, and "F" desperately need funding for a resource assistant to alleviate the burden on several teachers.
We are a fairly small county and we are trying to figure out a way to combine all 6 PTOs. Does anyone have any pros or cons to having a district wide PTO? We are meeting today at 4 and it's nothing like having little time to get some good advice....thanks in advance
