It depends, too, on the structure of your group. If you are a service group of the school operating under their administration and school board, they have every yet to review your agenda.



At my last school, prior to my term their, the previous superintendent actually set the agenda and gave it to the president to follow. And I believe he also attended every meeting. BTW, we always had to have all outgoing communication approved by the principal before sending anything out to parents and teachers.

I agree with pzettler that you want to keep things going good with the principal. And I also have to ask if your principal give you a reason?

~ Perhaps the school board told her she needs to be doing it so she's just following orders.

~ How do your meetings flow? Does the agenda make sense and is it followed? Maybe a parent or two complained about meeting structure and/or wasted time.

I guess if this happened to me I'd just ask the principal why the system is changing and what I could do to keep things going smoothly.

What is the principal's motivation?

I'd start providing the principal the agenda to review if I were you. The Principal can be your friend or enemy. If they become an enemy, it's going to be difficult to do anything?

I'd guess there is a concern larger that the agenda. Dig deeper by seeking to understand what "that or those" concerns are. Simply providing an agenda may not really address the concern. As you begin to understand the concerns, you can better figure out how to run your organization.

I'm a part of a my local PTO, which we started fall of 2006. Being from a small community we have very few members and fundraisers going on at this time. But our newest issue is that the principal says she has to approve of all pto meeting agendas-can that be right? She has not once come to any of the meetings in two years although invited on several occations!
