Are we legally required to have our own EIN? Or is this recommended when you want to operate without the threat of a controlling principal? We have a very good relationship with the principal, but want to make sure we look into this and make a good recommendation.
When we need to, we have used the school's EIN. This is the same for all the PTAs in our town. We had our best fundraising year this year and made about $10K.
