Here's another idea (depending how much you want to extend yourself)
Look up other PTOs in your area that have incorporated. Once you have their org name, you can probably find contact info for the school or a web page easily enough - maybe a webpage for the PTO. But then you'd have to call and ask. If it were me, I wouldn't mind at all.
Go to the area of your state's website where you check
name availability
for incorporating and enter Parent Teacher Organization as your search field (or any other phrases your area tends to use). You'll get back a list of incorporated entities that have that as part of their name.
I got these:
PARENT TEACHER ORGANIZATION OF BELVIDERE, INC.
PARENT-TEACHER ORGANIZATION OF JAMES MADISON PRIMARY SCHOOL, INC.
PARENT TEACHER ORGANIZATION OF PENNSYLVANIA AVENUE SCHOOL | 27
PARENT TEACHER ORGANIZATION OF SCHOOL NUMBER EIGHT (8), CLIFTON, NEW J
PARENT TEACHER ORGANIZATION OF SCHOOL NUMBER FOUR (4), CLIFTON, NEW J
THE PARENT-TEACHER ORGANIZATION OF THE CLINTON SCHOOL, SOUTH ORANGE,-M
PARENT TEACHER ORGANIZATION OF TUCKERTON.
PARENT TEACHER ORGANIZATION OF TVLC A NJ NONPROFIT CORPORATION
PARENT TEACHER ORGANIZATION OF UNION VALLEY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, INC.
THE PARENT-TEACHER ORGANIZATION OF WESLEY D. TISDALE SCHOOL, INC.
PARENT TEACHER ORGANIZATION OF WEST AMWELL SCHOOL, INC.
PARENT TEACHER ORGANIZATION OF WEST NEW YORK OF SCHOOL #1, INC.
PARENT TEACHER ORGANIZATION OF WEST NEW YORK OF SCHOOL #5, INC.
PARENT-TEACHER ORGANIZATION WOODBRIDGE SCHOOL 21, INC
KMAMOM was from New Jersey, but I haven't seen her on the Boards in several months. Here's an old post about incorporating. Maybe you could contact her.
I have the PTO Today "Start Up Kit" but was wondering if anyone who recently went through the incorporation process in New Jersey has any comments about his or her experience which might be specific to our state process. Were there any particular rough spots, good tips, etc. that you might share? By any chance did anyone use "Legalzoom.com"? Thanks for your responses!
