Audit

Although an annual audit is very important, it's not something I pay a CPA to do unless you have a very large amount of funds going through your account or some complex issues. However, if you can find a CPA to donate services, that's great.

In our elementary PTO, our school district auditor will do the audit for free in June. We have to turn over the checkbook for a few weeks while he works it into his schedule - but it's been a wonderful service.

I've belonged to 2 PTO's, a PTA, and various other parent/sports groups that have simlar needs. Many of us simply have a small audit committee of folks not normally associated with the treasury function.

You might want to use "audit" as a key word search here in the message boards. There's been a lot posted about this in the past.

Hi Texas Mom! You will learn alot on this forum...it is a GREAT place to find. As far as an audit it can be done numerous ways, sometimes it is more a school representative(non affilated with the group, more for school rep), and a few parents. Or you could just have a CPA, school business director, a professional along that line that will do and report back. The principal isn't usually there on that case. I also have heard of groups that strictly parents do it, either way make sure you are well represented and if you can get a CPA that is great!

I am a new PTO President this year in a public elementary school. It was mentioned to me that I should find a CPA parent and ask them to do an audit of last year's books. Can someone please tell me how many CPA's need to particpate in the audit and who from the past and present board needs to be in the room during the audit? Does the Principal need to be present?

I ran onto these message boards today. I finally feel like I have some experts to answer my many questions. I wish I would have found this site last August! Many thanks to all of you who use these message boards. I don't feel like I am alone in this PTO world any longer. THANKS!!
