We have great success with BEHR Exterior Porch and Floor paint. You can add a concrete/asphalt primer to the surface before you paint for additional strength. You can also add a no-slip paint additive which will ensure that no child slips and falls on the freshly painted map. KaBOOM! also provides a Service Learning Curriculum that you can use with your US or World map. Take a look at that here (scroll to US Map): kaboom.org/service_learning

Do the instructions offer just the one suggestion or do they base it on the variables mentioned above?

Perhaps a visit to a local paint shop would help?

Our Girl Scouts will be painting one of these on our playground this fall. What type of paint have people used? The directions specify 100% acrylic latex, but I'm nervous using plain old house paint. Any suggestions?

As a public service the "Pioneers" -- the retirees from the telecommunications companies -- paint these maps on school playgrounds. We're hoping to contact our local Pioneer group and get one painted soon!
