We could not do the National Mock Election on that day due to too many other things going on in the school that day. So we held our own election the week before. We used one of the special Ed rooms and the kids went one class at a time and cast their votes.
The best part was being in the school when the principal announced over the intercom system who had won. It was Bush and you could hear all the kids who voted for him hooting and cheering! It was great to hear the kids all excited about it!
We do elections for Scott City Mayor that good standing 5th graders can run for. This year we combined it with the presidental election and the students voted on a new school logo. These elections take place in October.
The irony of commitment is that it’s deeply liberating-in work, in play, in love. The act frees you from the tyranny of your internal critic, from the fear that likes to dress itself up and parade around as rational hesitation. To commit is to remove your head as the barrier to your life. --Anne Morris
Well the election was a pretty good success with 136 votes, mostly the kids. Looks like our kids are Bush fans with 73 to 55.
It was definately worth doing again!
I don't know if we are doing the national one, but our school is doing a mock election on Monday. Only students are voting. No adults. I'll let you know who wins.
I'm just sitting down finishing up the details of the National Student/Parent Mock Election and was wondering if anyone else is doing this at their school?
It would be interesting to compare results when it's over...
