I just wanted to let anyone interested know that your Assemblymen & Assemblywomen will come to your school (for grades 3-12) and present programs free of charge.
The one program is
America’s Legislators
Back-to-School Program
September 15 - October 15, 2004
They provide the children with age appropriate material and discuss things like...
How a bill becomes a law, What does it mean to be a legislator?, What is a typical day like?,
How did he/she get involved in public service and why?, What issues are he/she most concerned about and what action is being taken? The program runs about 1 hour and at the end they give the kids 15 minutes to ask them questions.
To find information for your state you need to find your states Legislature home page. Do a search "(your State)State Legislature" If you live in NJ the NJ page can be found at
www.njleg.state.nj.us/kids/backtoschool.asp
They also sponsor a back to school week, which is the third week in September. All states can get information at
www.ncsl.org/public/backsch.htm
We are doing one for our third graders in October.
I thought it might be nice to let the kids learn more about the Government, since this is a Presidential election year.
