We provide chess, theatre arts, Hands on Science (some schools do Mad Science, which I think is similar), and foreign language classes. The easiest of all these is Hands on Science, by far. Their website is www.hands-on-science.org/.
I dream of this. I would like to see enrichment programs that include crafts and a reading class that deals with something specific like Fairy Tales, anything to do with books because they are so fun. There are tons of sites for those things. Our Community Education Program provided gymnastics and Tae Kwon Do (I'm sure I spelled that wrong). 4H also comes and does some after school stuff. Last year our art teacher started an "Art Club", those kids had a blast.
We just had our first informal PTO meeting and have decided that we would like to start some after school programs for our children, we are pre-k through 5th. We haven't done anything like this before and I was trying to come up with some age appropriate ideas.
The middle school in our city has had really good success with knitting, scrapbooking, etc. Their PTO pays for the teachers to help teach 1 of these classes after school and we are discussing doing the same.
Any ideas would be appreciates. Thanks!
