Thanks for the info about Scholastic and they
do have it in paperback. Thought I had checked
there site, but obviously I must have overlooked
it.
Our PTO is a part of the Kindergarten orientation.
We have a room across the hall from the KN rooms
and when the teachers are done introducing them-
selves to the parents and new KN they inform them
that the PTO has refreshments for them next door.
We provide Capri Sun and bottle water, cookies,
and apples. We give them an information packet
about PTO and always invite them to the first
meeting of the year. We decorate the room in
primary colors and back-to-school decor and
naturally BALLOONS and we let the KN have a
balloon as they leave. We also have pencils
with the school name on them for the siblings.
Did you try Scholastic? I am a teacher/member from when I had a daycare and am able to purchase items directly and also receive the points.
I thought for sure I saw The Kissing Hand in one of my book orders last year in paperback.
Also, what about MISS BINDERGARTEN GETS READY FOR KINDERGARTEN? That might be an alternative choice.
Another thought is asking a local bookstore or box store to donate all or part of the books. you would have to ask far in advance so they may buy the appropriate amount of the book you are requesting.
What a great idea buying items for K orientation. We just created a Kindergarten PTO welcome packet this year. Maybe we should consider a little gift as well.
Our PTO purchases books annually for Kindergarten Screening gifts. Each child receives a packet to take home with different materials from the teachers and we include a book. This year, my son received "Wemberly Worried" by Kevin Henkes. It is a cute story and very appropriate. It addresses the fears that children have of the unknown in Kindergarten. We have tried to get the Kissing Hand in paperback to no avail. It seems everyone must try for that title. Good luck! It is a great idea!
Was wondering if anyone has purchased a book for
kindergartners at the orientation night? We were
thinking of purchasing "The Kissing Hand", but we
are unable to find it in paperback format and the
hardback format is a little pricey. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Last year we purchased them a box of crayons
and labeled them provided by the PTO. Thanks!
