Mac Bledsoe & Parenting with Dignity

Unfortunately, I am not familiar with "Love and Logic," so I really wouldn't be able to say what was different. Throughout the evening presentation, Mac did have some poignant moments where some tears may have been shed. But equally as many humorous moments... He has been such a positive influence on our community, it is unbelievable. Before he start ;) ed his presentation, he was just mingling with parents and introducing himself and learning about the parents. Finding out how many kids they had, what they did for a living etc. No one knew who he was because he is such a regular guy. Then he began his talk and all eyes were on him. He is engaging and endearing. He makes you want to invite him over for dinner. Afterwards, he held a book signing. He remembered everyone that he had introduced himself to and continued his conversation where he had left off. He also let anyone who hadn't brought $ to buy a book, just take one on the honor system. He gave them his card and told them to just mail the money whenever they got it. So many parents just couldn't believe he was willing to do that. He is an awesome guy. One of his key points is his theory that your children are on loan to you for 18 years. You have 18 years to teach them to make good choices daily. For example, at age 10, they should make 10/18ths of their daily decisions. At age 2, 2/18ths of their decisions. Anyway, I could go on and on but check out his website and if you want more info, feel free to contact me.

How is it different than Love and Logic? It's a great program but I still have a hard time saying "Oh how sad" with out laughing! I did find a book called "How to behave so your children will too" which has been really funny and makes you really think about how grounding one child will effect the WHOLE family (if you don't behave we can't go to out for pizza, that's really not right if the other four children have behaved, it's points like that.)

Anymore any good help is better than none!

I'll concur with julie. Mac was the keynote at our 2001 PTO conference in Massachusetts. Great speaker, important message and dead-on as a family night speaker for schools.

I have not seen any information on Mr. Mac Bledsoe posted on the forum. However, our district was just recently privileged to host Mr. Mac Bledsoe for a day of presentations. He is the father of well-known Buffalo Bills QB, Drew Bledsoe. Mac, along with his wife Barbara, are motivational and inspirational speakers, and educators, on the topic of "Parenting with Dignity" . His message is straight-forward and hits home with many. He discusses the reason why discipline doesn't work, supporting your child's goals, communicating with your child and much, much more. In our district, Mr. Bledsoe did 4 seperate presentations to grades 5-12 students. In the evening he did a presentation for parents. He is genuinely one of the most direct, honest and caring individuals I have ever had the privilege to meet. I would recommend his book, titled (Parenting with Dignity), and his program to all parents, guardians, caregivers and educators. If your group is looking for a way to touch all of your families, there aren't enough positive words to say about Mac. His price was high, but our district ended up using grant money they had set aside for parent education programs for most of it. We collaborated with 3 other district PTO's and significantly reduced the remaining cost of his program. If anyone would like further information on this, please feel free to contact me via email. And check out his website at www.parentingwithdignity.com (By the way, this sort of sounds like a paid advertisement, but trust me, it is not. I am just an average Mom who was thoroughly impressed!)
