It cost about $5000.00,but most of the concert was paid for with all the ads for the program which were purchased by local business and teachers, staff, parents and students at our school.
All the money made with ticket sales will help the PTA to improve our programs and help the teachers with material they may need for their classrooms.
Kewl! What does it cost to bring a Tom Chapin in to perform?
I'm a huge fan of his late brother Harry. As I tell people: he was a great story teller, he believed in the ability of people who get involved to make a difference, and he was fond of telling his audiences "America is a particapatory democracy -- it doesn't work unless you participate!" Anybody who knows me can understand why I value all three of those traits.
Harry had a great song in which a teacher berates a child, singing "flowers are red / and green grass is green / there is no need for flowers to be seen any way / than the way they always have been seen." And the child responds "there are so many colors in the rainbow / and so many colors in the morning sun / and so many colors in the flowers / and I see every one." It should be required listening for every teacher.
On April 13,2002 the our PTA hosted a Tom Chapin concert which was an assembly/fundraiser.
It was great fun for all. Our music teacher contacted all the other music teachers in the school district and formed a children's chorus.
The kids did the grand finale singing three songs with Tom Chapin and friends.
I would suggest this to all schools k-6 and their parents.
