We have had the NED show as well. Only at our school, the students did not get free yo-yo's...I think the cheapest was $6 (not too bad). They are paid out of the sales of the yo-yos and accessories.
I know we have had the normal Fire Dept assemblies that are free.
Also, during Red Ribbon Week, the marine base we are by comes out and does a drug assembly for the kids...they usually come every other year. They bring their dogs and show the kids how they can hunt drugs down.
We had Prismatic Magic do a show for us at the end of last year and the kids LOVED it! I highly recommend their programs! I don't think the students even realized they were learning because they were having such a blast!
There's a science laser program out of LA called Prismatic Magic that is normally NOT FREE, but they just donated a highly discounted (maybe even free) Halloween laser show to our library in Yorba Linda last Thursday. I'm not sure what are the criteria for a free show, but it doesn't hurt to look into it. Since the library invited all of the towns PTA's to come, it might have to do with a promotional arrangement(???)
Really neat and different kind of show, by the way...we're hoping to have them next year when our principal let's us do cultural arts again! ;(
