Question: Principal on the PTO Board?

Our elementary Principal recently became the Secretary of the school PTO. Isn't this a conflict of interest? Are there rules about school official involvement? How can the parents have a louder voice?

This depends on your bylaws. Check the bylaws for who is eligible to run for office (usually a “member in good standing”) and then for how a member in good standing is defined. If teachers/the principal or non-parents aren’t explicitly called out as ineligible for office or for membership, they they can run for a board position.
