Question: Forming a new PTO......Need advice!
My kids recently started attending a school that hasn't had a PTO organization for several years. It is a small school of about 200. A few of us parents want to get involved, but nobody wants to be in charge. Myself and another mother are getting the organization going. Here is my question.....we want 3-4 of us parents to be equally in charge and not have a formal Pres, VP, Secretary, Treasurer. Is this a bad idea??? I don't think we will be able to get anyone to commit to the roles like Pres, Treasurer, etc that are very time consuming. We are all ok with being in charge of something, but not running the whole thing (because we don't have a lot of support). Any suggestions would be great!!!!

Congrats on wanting to get the ball rolling! So, running the group by committee can be done, but it really isn't the optimal approach. You really should have someone designated as treasurer, and, ideally, as president. Then the other pieces can get filled in/shared. It's not uncommon for people to feel a little anxious about taking on the official job as president, even though they would do all the work that the job entails. Maybe there are is someone who can be convinced to take on the title as president as long as they get lots of help. But you really do want to have a designated treasurer.
