Question: Can term limits be changed?
Please advise if term limits can be changed for a position (parent/teacher rep) if no one else wants to serve? Our past p/t rep is willing to keep the position, but she has already served 2 consecutive years. We are a very small school, and having a hard time getting involvement due to past PTO leaders.

Rose H writes:Very short answer is yes! But, first check your bylaws. You may find that they were written with language that indicates a term-limit should be maintained unless there is no one else available/willing to assume the role. Many groups do that. If that isn't the case, your group can make a plan to amend the bylaws. In the mean time, if no one is stepping up, and you need someone in the role of parent/teacher rep., then your current rep should continue.
