Question: PTO Board
We live in a very rural area with a high military population (lots of turn over) is it appropriate for a teacher or principal to hold a Board position.

Craig writes:It's pretty common for teachers to hold board positions. I wouldn't necessarily recommend it for the principal, though. The principal has enough to worry about. He can help you in a lot of ways without actually sitting on the board. You're better off with the principal as trusted adviser rather than office-holder.

wkiwaha808 writes:I have to agree with Craig. It is a good thing to have teachers on the Board. In my PTO all members - including teachers, staff, parents and community - may hold office. The principal is an ex-officio member of the Board, however, is barred from holding elected office.
