Question: Fundraisers for Low Income School
We are a low income school, and most of our parents cannot afford to give money for things. Looking for any ideas for some fundraisers for our PTO that won't cost alot, but will raise money for PTO this year

Wright writes:Does your school participate in Box Tops For Education. You should look into this. For each box top submitted the school earns ten cents, you will be surprised how this adds up. You can go online to Box Tops and become the coordinator. No since in wasting a dime from products that the parents buy.

BrassCommunitySchool writes:Hello our school finds itself in the same situation however we use any and every resource available in our area to help raise money. So key things for us are movie night where the movie is free but the parents can purchase food for very minimal cost a full meal is only $2.00 that hot dog chips and punch. This is a huge success through out the year. We also do a school wide popcorn sale once each month where the popcorn is only $0.25 per bag. Finally, the greatest success we find is doing BoxTops we hold two school wide contest a year and this year last year I school earned over $2000.00 for the contest. Simple prize for the classroom with the most box tops was a pizza party and a movie. Works like a charm ;-) I hope these ideas help.

It’s important to reach out to local businesses for in-kind charitable donations i.e. pizza shops for free food that you can sale for a profit and keep the cost low for parents. Target fast food companies to host fundraisers; some of them now have mobile units and can come to you. Also, partner with other schools to combine resources and generate more profit. And don’t forget about your local churches; you can host fundraisers there and have a hotdog and chips night.

clayboggess writes:The less expensive the item the more of it you have to sell. For example, candy bars only cost $1 but schools make an average of 50¢ in profit for each product sold. So to make $1,000 in profit you have to sell 2,000 bars.
On the other hand, to make the same $1,000 in profit, if you sold just 250 items from a $10 variety catalog you’d only have to sell 250 items. In other words, there are pros and cons to consider. Learn more about school fundraisers.
