Question: Creating Positions
Our PTO has several excellent candidates running for the only position currently open. I need suggestions on creating new PTO poisitons to utilize all of the candidates, not just one of them. I don't want anyone walking away discouraged. PTO Pres, Susan Klim

Advice from PTO Today
Craig writes:Hi Susan -- That's a great idea. First of all, you might want to talk to them about their talents and interests, to see if you have something that would match. Some positions you might create if you don't have them already: volunteer coordinator, parent involvement committee, co-/assistant officer positions--essentially officers in training (your co-treasurer would naturally move into to the treasurer position at the next election), school board liaison, teacher liaison, community/business liaison (someone responsible for building ties with and getting sponsorships from local businesses). You might also let your new people brainstorm their own role -- for example, is there a type of event or program they'd like to organize? When you start with someone capable and excited as an organizer, that's at least half the battle in creating a great event. Good luck, and please let us know how this works out!
