Question: Flag donation/fundraising?
My daughter is responsible for bringing the flags down at the end of each school day. Last year, she pointed out that the flags were getting pretty tattered (we live in an incredibly windy area), and we needed new ones. She was told they could order new ones, but with the budget crisis, it might take awhile. She's 9. She takes this job very seriously. She wants to raise the money to get the flags. I've found flags for sale, but is anyone aware of flag donations? I would like her to send letters and get this taken care of before the flags actually rip. I will have her speak at our next PTO meeting as well, but I'd like her to be able to have numbers and information for her presentation.

I used to work there and each office has a full time staffer who just handles flag orders. First all flags from US Senate offices are now first flown over the Capitol building and include a certificate and prices include shipping. 3x5 Nylon $17.50 5x8 Nylon $28.05 The Nylon is very thick and is reinforced all the way around. BTW most VFW's order their flags from the Senate offices anyway because it is hard to find flags that i have been made in the US, which these have been.

MagnetMom writes:Thanks to all that answered. My daughter wrote to the US representatives, state representatives, state senators, and the city council person with her school in his district. She received an email yesterday that the state senator for her school will be donating them, and thanked her for her civic concern regarding the flag. She was over the moon. The flags will arrive shortly and the school and the PTO won't be out any money.

Our school also has a wind issue that tears up our flags. Our local American Legion and Legion Auxiliary have donated replacements to us in the past. If you contact members of the local chapter of the AmVets, American Legion, or a military base near you. Another thought is contacting your state or U.S. senators or Representatives.
