Grandparents Prom

Our school is on one campus K-12. Every year, our high school holds its prom. It takes so much work into putting it together and then is just torn down that evening and day after. I just felt we should be able to utilize it more than for just one evening. I had been tossing around the idea of a Mother/Son or Father/Daughter dance. But I didn't like the idea of that because it took away the parents for helping the PTO out in running it. So we came up with the idea of having our grandparents come in and spend the afternoon with their grandchildren. Parents helped with refreshments of cookies, grapes, apples & bananas. We held it from 1-3p in the afternoon and hired a DJ. We also asked someone with a really nice camera to do "Prom Pictures" for us. This past year was our first year and it was a hit! We had 180 people (grandparents & students) RSVP to attend. Our Elem is about 260 students.
