the school held a Kindie Orientation where you get your emergency packets, they talk about parking, signing in, meet your teachers etc....
then the Friday before school starts, there is an Open House to see your classroom and meet all the teachers in all grades.
I definitely think the PTO Pres or someone from PTO should meet and talk or have a flyer ready at your open house or back to school night.
at the end of the year, someone from the PTO should go to the Kindie graduation or any graduation and thank the parents for their support over the year.
I found this to be very receptive. Many parents don't go to the meetings or don't even know what the PtO Pres look like, yet here is this person asking for money all year long!
one of our schools do "Tissues and Tears" breakfast in the gym. it's a light breakfast and new kindie parents get to spend a few minutes meeting each other.
this year, I did "hugs & Kisses" poem. I put 5 hersheys kisses in a snack size ziplock bag with the poem and passed them out to the new moms/dads as they took their kids to line up for Kindie class. We have 146 new kindies this year.
you can modify the poem for any grade or just new students.
here's the poem:
We’re giving you a KISS out here
As we begin our Kindie Year (modify with "as we begin our Brand New Year")
We’re going in to make new friends
We’ll see you when our first day ends
Congratulations to your New Kindie
From Antelope Ridge PTO
We invite all new parents to the Boo Hoo breakfast, not just kindergarten, so we get to meet everyone who is new to the school. Are invites read about the same as the others. This year we're going to have the invites ready for the summer testing so parents will have more notice.
We are doing the Boo Hoo/ Yahoo Breakfast on the first day of school.
Our invitations say: WOW Kindergarten Already!!
Whether you are Boo Hooing or
Yahooing!!! Please join the PTO for
for a quick breakfast in the Elementary gym, after you
have delivered your little one to their class!
Look forward to seeing you there!!!
The kindergarten teachers have an Open House just for kindergarters the Tuesday before school starts we are passing out a book to all kindergarters
and the invitations and a PTO packet to all the parents.
Can someone send me some ideas of how you word your Boo-Hoo Breakfast Invitations? I want to make it short and sweet but also want to make sure parents know what it's all about since we have never done one before. HELP! Thanks!
We have a big step reception on the 1st day for K parents. We serve donuts and juice in the am, cookies and lemonade in the pm. we hold it in the library and we introduce ourselves, the principal speaks and we hand out a little gift like one of the first day of school poems with treats that go w/ it. We hand out the invitations to the K parents during enrollment.
Maybe you could open it up to K and all new parents?
