Thanks to everyone's suggestions here, our school will hold our first Family Fitness Night on May 24th. We will have a karate school offer 3 20-minute lessons, blood pressure checks, hula hoop, jump rope, hop balls, and table scooter contests between kids and parents, and a craft table to make stress balls. Our gate teacher will also have games to "exercise the mind" and our principal will introducae a new Parent Resource Library. We'll give away bottled water and have lots of raffle prizes. We are very excited about this event!
soccermom,
could you e-mail me a few details about family fitness night? I know you had one and I'd like to get a little more info. I think I have a few ideas and am applying for a grant for it for next may. My application is due in a couple of weeks though and I'd like to have more ideas in writing. THanks much.

Our Family Fitness Night turned out AWESOME! The kids had a great time, and so did the parents. It wasn't a huge amount of work to put together, and the stations pretty much ran themselves. It was VERY funny to watch some of the parents and teachers follow the kickboxing instruction in addition to the pilates. Some people are so uncoordinated! But they were all very good sports, and had lots of fun. The kids are asking when our next FFN will be, and we're leaning towards offering something in the spring. This will definitely be an annual event! Next time, we'll probably just have a water/gatorade station and have either granola or cereal bars as a snack (instead of the volumes of snacks that were put out). Good luck with your FFN...You'll have a ball!
Hello all...just wanted to keep you updated on our progress. Our first family fitness night is coming up in about four weeks...this is what we have lined up--
1. Cardio-kickboxing for parents and children
2. Pilates for both
3. Stations for push-ups, sit ups, etc.--prizes for the most in a minute in each age/gender bracket.
4. Taste-testing for healty snacks--donated from the local health food store.
5. A health club in the area has given us a free 6 month membership to be raffled off at this event.
A local karate school has agreed to donate the two (45 minute)kickboxing/pilates sessions as long as we let them have a sign-ups for their kickboxing and pilates classes...(optionally, of course.) I am very excited about the event and am looking forward to letting you all know how it pans out. Keep your fingers crossed for me!
We also have a Family Swimming night at the local YMCA and Family Ice Skating as well..
