We too, provide baby-sitting at our monthky PTO meetings. The majority of the time we will have a high school student stay with the children and play games, do a craft or watch a movie.
Our school advertises free babysitting for PTO meetings. We have a group of kids from the high school who need to earn community service hours do the babysitting. We provide craft projects as an fun option for the kids. Since our meeting is in the evening and our school is on the Market Day program, we provide samples of 2 or 3 items for parents and kids to try. This gives everybody a chance to try a new product (we have gotten lots of new Market Day customers from this idea) and enjoy a snack.
we also allow children at our meeting. they are normally after school , so the parents come at pick up time and just stay for the meeting. we have a after school snack (from Market Day of course) and games or a craft. this month student council has offered to help with a halloween craft.
We do allow children, but we have a childcare. Our high school has a service club that needs volunteer time so have them do it and then we donate $50 a year.
We just started making a place for children at our meetings. We have monthly meetings and are an elementary school with about 550 children. They can stay and play or work quietly where we are or go in an adjacent meeting where we have a sitter with toys and a movie. So far, parents are saying it is helpful and at least the perception of the meeting being closed to single parents is removed. We'll see if it makes much of a difference in participation.
We also allow children. The children usually go into the computer lab and play online while we have our meeting. We usually have less than 10 people at our PTO meetings so we have never had a problem with children running around.
