I know just how you feel. I took over as pto president this year, I can't get any help from my board and all the teachers have done is complained. It is very frustrating for a volunteer job, but I am going to stick it out for the year.

Lucella, to answer your question about being voted in...long story that I'll try to make short.
Last year two days before nominations I was asked to run and said I wasn't sure it was for me. The person who asked me to run sent an acceptance form for me to sign and a copy of the by-laws home the next day in my son's backpack. The next evening I went to the meeting stated I didn't sign my acceptance and wasn't sure I committ to PTO. I was told my name was already on the ballot and it would all be okay just to do what I could. That was for the position of VP, I was elected and helped w/ PTO the rest of that year. Two weeks before school started I was informed that both our president and sec. quit. Our by-laws state that if pres. resigns then vp steps up, so I did. I bent over backwards to do everything I could for our school to be ready to start and our PTO to begin and in return got a lot of negativity. I'm upset to a certain degree for having resigned because I feel as if I have so much to offer, and such wonderful ideas (thanks to ptotoday!), but as my husband said it doesn't matter if you can't get anyone to listen to those ideas and try them.

Thanks again to everyone for the support and suggestions, wouldn't we have the best PTO in the world if only the people using these message boards could join their own!

I am glad that you have come to term with this, it is a huge responsibility to be in charge of a parent group and there are times that it drains you both physically and mentally. so we all understand your choice...enjoy your kids!

Hi T--glad that you are at peace with your decision and already looking forward to the next time you might be able to do this stuff. I hate the idea of the school losing someone with such energy and pure desire to do great things for the children but of course understand...I have 4 boys 10, 8, 6 and 4 1/2 years old and the 6 and 4 year old have been a "part" of the PTO since they were 4 and 2...for the little guy it is almost now a part of the day that he looks forward too [img]smile.gif[/img] ...so I do understand the effort you've put in...hard to do with no positive returns for sure.
Maybe you can take some of your talents and focus them on a smaller task--like a family bingo or something where you KNOW your child would have fun! I would love to put someone on the spot (mostly in-law oriented) but like you have opted to not have the negative energy.

kelgf - You are a brave person and I applaud you. You were struggling with a very difficult decision and approached it with dignity and self respect. The only right choice was the one that is right for you and where you're at in your life right now. You set a fine example for the rest of us.

I hope we still see your smiling face [img]smile.gif[/img] on the PTOtoday boards because it's clear that you have a lot to share and we can all learn from you.

Hey everyone, thanks for all the replies! I feel like the weight of the world has been lifted off my shoulders. I have made my decision to resign, and informed my fellow officers. I'm sad not to be doing the job of PTO president, but now isn't the time. Maybe in a few years, maybe. I really feel good about the decision and am anxious to see if the pto at our school has a chance to be turned around and made positive. I'm not sure how involved I will state with events, but you can bet I'll be at the meetings. Not that I'm going to, but do you ever feeling like putting someone on the spot just to prove a point, gosh how I'd love to do that to them, but I'm not gonna. I'm the good girl, for the most part anyways. Enough about me and pto for a while. Thanks to everyone, I truly appreciated all the replies and considered what each and everyone of you had to share.
