Bulletin boards aren't really my thing. I did do our bulletin board the other day, got tangled up in the paper, lost scissors about 100 times, stapled my finger a few times....etc. But I do love to see a good bulletin board. I nice looking boards make the school more attractive in addtion to informing parents, students, and staff. Check with your library and see if they have an issue of Mailbox something or other. The librarian will probably know what you are talking about. I've found some great sites for bulletin boards by using search engines. Such as
www.teach-nology.com/searchme/search.cgi...bulletin+board+ideas.

I like the idea of using material instead of paper for the background.

For the start of the year, we are planning on using a puzzle piece border and creating large puzzle pieces with P(arent), T(eacher), and O(rganization) on them. Then, we will post smaller puzzle pieces with some of the events we will be doing, the officers and info, and just some general info. We will be putting the words "Parents are the missing piece". Hopefully it will work and catch parents eye.

How about doing the student of the months with "Look at Our Stars" and each month add the new child that month to the bullentin board.

Oh I forgot!! At the end of the year in June I don't do the regular stuff, I have small paper suns with the volunteers name on them and I put them all over the board with a banner at the top that says THANKS TO ALL OF YOU! Then I have a banner that says CONGRADULATIONS & GOOD LUCK TO THE CLASS OF 2006! That was the 4th grade class that will be going to middle school in the fall. And another one that says HAVE A GREAT SUMMER! Good Luck I hope my going on and on helps!!

Good Morning,
I have the pleasure of taking care of the bulletin board at my elementary school. My board is a full size sheet of plywood that is covered with cork. It is covered with white paper as the back ground and then I matte everything with a piece of construction paper. For example for september. I think of school. I bought cut out sets from a school supply store It has a bus, a book, an apple, a school house. I scatter the cut out around, and then I will use yellow construction paper behind all the other things I will put up. I have the lunch menu, meeting announcements, special holidays, special events, a large calendar. Make sure you list every holiday you don't want to forget anyone. When there is an event and we have taken pictures I post them up in a section "LOOK WHO HAD FUN AT THE ...." We put up the officers names and phone numbers, anything and everything that is happening at the school. Every month the cut outs are different and the construction paper matches. OCT-Halloween-Orange & Purple
NOV-Thanksgiving-Orange & Brown
DEC-Christmas-Red & Green
JAN-Snowmen- Blue & white
FEB-Valentines-Red & White etc.
You should talk to the principal about what you want to put up I have some students in the school where witches are the sign of the devil in their religon, so there are none, I can't put up Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny. Some of the symbols that most of us take for granted sre offensive to others. So take care with that. But I have fun with it. I make up the announcements on my computer using word and lots of clip art.
I change it every month on the first. It takes me about 2 hours to take apart one montha nd redo the next month. When you get into the school supply store or the teacher supply store your imagination will run wild with ideas. I am in Mass so I used to have a store call Hammetts, the office supply store Staples has a section for teachers. Good Luck & have fun !
