field day

At our school, the teachers are required to be outside with their class all day. They take the children around to each event and supervise. Parent volunteers and our art, music, Open Door teachers also help volunteer by running the activities. Surprisingly, this is the one event where almost every parent comes out. I wish I could say the same for the Carnival. That was like pulling teeth with no novacaine. ACK

We have all day field day and are a K-5 school. We work closely with our phys. ed instructor. Notices go home to all parents asking for volunteers - include schedule for the day and ask them to indicate what time (even all day) that works for them. This also cuts down on calling everyone asking "what can you do". I don't see why the grade levels need to be seperated. All our students are chaperoned by their teacher and volunteers. There is no interaction between the grade levels. Good luck.

Had the same problem. Not as many kids, but none the less. we are having a pirate / mermaid theme to our field day, and to occupy the lower level while the big kids are outside, they will be watching Little Mermaid. And when the lower levels are outside the big kids are watching Pirates of the Carr. if the princ. okays it, if not they will watch SharkTale.

1 per station is fine. I think it is the norm depending on the game. Good luck and have fun!

My school does the same. The gym teacher recruits the volunteers and does the planning. She also asks the Honor Society students from the high school to help. The pto buys the pizzas and drinks for the volunteers and popsicles for the kids.
