This must be our school!!! We have the same non-response! I have tried all year to get people involved, I had lots of ideas in the beginning but after trying so hard I am now ready to hand over the President position for the next person, problem with that is we have no volunteers to take it! Help!

We have neither. We have the same five people coming to the meetings but no one wants to volunteer for ANYTHING. We have sent letters out with the kids, stood outside passing out flyers, and flat out asking them in person. One young lady just said she wasn't interested. I'm stumped. One parent wanted to be paid. We aren't allowed to do that. We keep trying to have interesting meetings (health and education) still nothing. If some one come up with something else PLEASE LET ME KNOW.

after going to some of our "general meetings" I am concerned about the way they are being snuck in on the parents. and i do mean snuck in. the way they do the meetings at our school is they just simply have a brief meeting before events. like say if they need to have a meeting one month they will plan a movie nite then when you get there they have a meeting first. but the problem I have is that the meeting itself is never announced. I feel that is not right. the parents have no clue that they are attending a meeting they think they are going to a movie. we have a good turn out for our sprise meetings as far as parents go but the problem is that only a handful of them are even on the pta in the first place. out of a school of 500 students we only have about 45-55 PTA memebers. and that includes the teachers and the board.

what I want to know is what can I do to change this? any ideas or suggestions? also do you think that if the meetings are announced and maybe even minutes from them sent home afterwards, we could increase of members of the PTA??
I think if the communcation was better more parents would want to get involved. personally my son is in 2nd grade and this is the first year I signed up for the PTA, simply because I have never seen a flyer telling me when a meeting was, so I saw no need to pay money to join.
any advice or tips are appreicated, thank you

Also, I forgot to mention--our 8th graders babysit in our Kindergarten/Pre-K room so there is always soemthing fun for the kids to do! It works great and we get those parents that we might not have gotten if not for the babysitting~

Hi!
We have a decent turnout at our meetins. We theme our meetings around what time of year it is. Tonight we have a meeting at 7pm and it is a spring theme. We always have refreshments, we have a "scrip" drawing for those in attendance from our scrip program, we have FREE babysitting to the parents that we buy our 8th graders $10.00 in scrip, and we keep our meetings--usually- to an hour! Sometimes they go over but it does happen when you ahve a hot topic. We set ours to the same night--3rd Monday of every other month and that is because of sports--it's the only night they cannot practice for sports at our school. This is a way for the parents to remember because it is consistent.

We are having a lot more fun at our meetings--we played games and bought prizes from the $ store for our last meeting and we are playing another one tonight. We make it fun and people really want to come back. I make an effort as the PTG president to go out of my way and personally welcome any new families at the beginning of the year and throughout the year. Our school offers onsite babysitting (provided by a volunteer parent) and gives out extra recess cards to parents at the end of the meeting so their kids can have 10 minutes of extra recess the day after the meeting. They get parent volunteers to cover the extra recess.
