I just got an e-mail from the Futures Program whcih we use to keep track of our volunteers, students, etc. about some new articles they put on their website. When I saw your post on the discussion forum, I thought you might be interested in the articles since they gave some good suggestions and ideas, especially the one about 'impressions'. Here's the link: www.schoolvolunteer.org/news.html
Hope this is helpful, and good luck!
We send out an invitation every month(to every parent) to the PTO meeting, we also put the date and time in the monthly newsletter. Our meetings are one in the same, if you want to vote on something you have to attend 3 consecutive meetings, that way somebody just doesn't pop in with 30 friends to vote on something they want. We also put a little "quote of the month" on everything. Here are some of the quotes:
"You make a living by what you get, you make a life but what you give." Sir Winston Churchill
"Not everyone can do everything, but everyone can do one thing."
It just gives parents a little something to think about.

We had the same problem. We have moved our meetings to a more common location and changed the name from Ex. Board Meeting to General Board meeting. It's taking time for the parents to get used to it, but is working. Good Luck
Soccer Mom would you please email me a copy of your top ten lists? Thanks! This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
I thought that the purpose of board meetings was to put together a good agenda for the general meeting.
How do they know that "parents won't like it" if it is not brought to a vote by the general members? All you have to do it put it on the agenda and parents can speak for themselves at the meeting.
