With Texas' new emphasis on healthy food choices, we've seen some real changes in this year's menus.
P.S. I was at the grocery story this weekend and saw two new "healthy" lunchables. Both had meat, cheese, and crackers. But one had sliced green apple and the other raw baby carrots as the side item. So the food industry is taking note of these concerns also.
I don't like all the menu items, but it better than having a child sit in a classroom with a empty stomach because he doesn't like a food. And we know children will do that.
I am one of those parents who doesn't like what they are serving our children and today when I asked my son what he's been having for lunch this week (last year he did mostly cold lunches)
He said he's had Pizza, burritos and nachos but he hasn't had a corn dog yet! This is ALL snack/junk food! They throw in little bags of carrots and a carton of milk and call it healthy. How is this healthy??
Our menu is at www.sodexhoeducation.com/default.asp
When I counted, some form of Pizza is a choice 15 out of 21 days. Left to his own devices, sadly, my child will not pick the healthiest choice.
My kids are only having pizza twice this month. It is usually about once a week, but we are off 2 days this month and the fries have been cut way down this month too. I give this months menu a thumbs up. I hated school lunches, I was content with my ketchup and mayo sandwiches with corn chips (no, I do not let my kids eat like I did), but I think we had a bigger variety. Of course that was so long ago I may be forgetting.
Salads are offered Tues.,Wed., and Thurs. Sandwich choices are offered daily. We only have one line at our school. For breakfast have 7 days of sugary mornings, but they have chereal offered every morning and not all of what they have is sugar filled.
If I had a scanner I would send you what I have and by the time I remembered to mail this thing, it would probably be too late. Hope this helps.
