Oriental Trading has a lot of inexpensive craft kits. For most, all you need is craft glue. I hold a Christmas workshop for Girl Scouts (100 girls) every year and they usually make about 8 different items and we only charge $2 to do them all. I usually provide a container they can decorate to hold all their crafts. The large cans from the cafeteria (painted white and add handles) are the girls' favorite containers to decorate.
We have been doing the hair painting for the last 3 yrs at our spring fling and we run out of paint EVERY YEAR- and we've gotten more each year, but still not enough. The kids pick the color(s) and we just spray and in about 20 seconds you can move onto the next customer- no long lines! We went to Wal-Mart after Halloween and loaded up on all colors for 80%off each can. We use "Super Dry Flourescent Hair Color" in a 3.85oz aerosol spray bottle. You can charge just about whatever you want to b/c they are going to get it no matter what- they just love it! Stacie
Our carnival is held at Halloween so we had a booth we called the monster parlor. They could get their face painted, get a water tattoo or get their hair painted. The kids loved it!!!
On the make it take it issue...we actually do a whole day of nothing but this right before Christmas for the kids to have things to give as gifts. The kids love that they made the gift themselves. We have 8 different items they can make including ornaments, candle holders, picture frames, etc... Some are holiday related and some aren't. We change it every year and try to keep the cost less than $1.50 per item. This is not a fundraiser for our Parent Club it is a Fun Raiser for the kids. We only charge them our cost. Each year the attendance goes up and we are at approximately 200 attendees right now.
If you check the Michaels website I think they even tell you how long the project takes. You can also try the making friends website they have a lot of bead projects especially keychains. Also scout projects would be good to use since they usually have to be done in a short period of time.
We are holding a carnival in May, could you please tell me how to do the hair painting. What kind of paint, what you charge,etc.....
thanks for your help
In regards to the hair painting, we had our 1st carnival last year and before hand we attend a local school's fall carnival. The hair painting was a big money maker. We had it at our's and was out of paint within 1 hr!!! We have tripled our number of can's this year and hope we are prepared for a big crowd. The kids loved it!
Nature printing is always a great experience for kids of all ages. You just need paint, paint brushes, and lots of different leaves and flowers. they paint the leaves (or flowers) with the brush and place them on the paper to make an imprint. You will be surprised at some of the creative designs. By the way you can use feathers as well as anything else that may have a good texture. Then you could use colored construction paper and let them frame it.
