The Customer Service Rep at BoxTops was extremely nice and handled the matter very efficiently.
They didn't charge us to stop payment on the check.
But now I'm told the envelope will say either "Box Tops", or "General Mills", or "YA", or maybe any combination of the three. It will take approximately 30 days to receive the new check. And the rep said it really does look like junk mail. I asked him if it could be sent to my home address or at least address it to my attention if sent to the school. Unfortunately they couldn't do either one. Now, it will probably arrive in July when the school is closed for the month!!!
Wonder if we could all get together and persuade General Mills to make some changes to make this piece of mail look more important??? Or at least send it to the attention of the BoxTops Coordinator???
Our boxtops checks almost always get lost. Our group encompasses two schools, and without fail one check is missing. So far one came in about two weeks ago- the other hasn't been seen. The October check was also lost, this time in the other school. General Mills will reissue the check after 6 weeks has passes. It would be nice if they would make it more official looking so it doesn't get mistaken for junk mail.
Our checks go to our treasurer who looks at everything. I also would check my junk mail just in case there was a sample (like a book mark we get those a lot).
Did you have to pay a fee for the check to be stopped. It sounds like they were really nice about the whole thing. That just adds to the money reward doesn't it?
I checked with BoxTops web site and called the company. They told me our check had been mailed May 15.
I had asked our Principal to watch for a piece of mail from Box Tops. Box Tops tells me that the piece of mail doesn't actually say "Box Tops" anywhere on it. They say it is a tri-fold paper with "YA" in the upper left hand corner. It probably came in and was thrown away as junk mail.
Anyway, Box Tops said they would be happy to stop payment on that check and re-issue a new one, but I had to wait until after the 15th of June for them to do that. So, I guess I'll be giving them a call back. We earned $641 through their program and really need it (we're paying to have ceiling fans installed in our upstairs classrooms).
Has anyone else had this problem of the check being mistaken for junk mail? I think it would be a lot easier if it said "Box Tops" somewhere on the envelope.
