Creating/Inexpensive Silent Auction Baskets

12 years 7 months ago #160708 by JHB
Just a reminder that THIS particular thread was for ideas when you personally (or a small group) needs to create a basket. We have other great threads about donation sources.

Bumping up this thread for anyone who's in the final throws of putting together an auction and may need some last minute ideas for baskets. Some good ideas here for inexpensive baskets. Anyone have ideas on quick to put together baskets?

Thanks,
Rose C.

We just held a Fall Festival and we did raffles and the biggest "ticket" items that were inexpensive were game nights, baskets with a gift certificate for dinner ($25); a DVD; a couple board games; hot cocoa; coffee; etc. Things that are nice for the entire family.

Family Movie Night Baskets: Out PTO just used this theme for our BINGO night! A large popcorn bucket and four smaller popcorn buckets (Dollar Tree), a family friendly movie (donated), Bags of Microwavable Popcorn (donated), and Movie Style Boxes of Candy (Wal Mart/Dollar Tree) Each basket retailed for: $20; cost us only $5 and we made a little over retail price for each one through the sale of BINGO cards! It was a great idea and can easily be used in an auction as well. To make a basket more appealing in an auction setting, add several movies, double the popcorn or add an entire box, add more candy, and maybe a box of hot cocoa. GOOD LUCK :)

I believe American Girl will donate a doll.

I'd look in to mom & pop business in your area. Do an auction catalog and it's an advertisement for them.

You can also do venue/sports/show tickets, etc.

What about limo ride with principal to lunch somewhere?

fire departments might help by allowing a student to be driven to school and home in fire truck, wear equipment, etc.

We have an auction coming up in Feb, too.

Do an online search for "journal in a jar" - lots of printables to use or ideas to make your own slips. Essentially it's a jar filled with writing prompts for journaling - I have made them for generic use as well as "tween girl" use. Put all the slips in a pretty jar - or use pretty ribbon on a simple mason jar - and then package with a nice journal and pen. Costs very little but can go for a pretty nice amount.

Classroom art projects are always a hit - so much that I'm giving them their own section at our auction this year. Of course, our theme is "A Night at the Museum" with an art focus, so it makes sense.
