Boundaries

quick answer....boundries....99.9999% of the time the school has the last say...every district has rules, guidelines and policies that we all need to follow. We use their buildings, their equipement, their mailboxes, and their staff. I would truly recommend going into mediation before this gets worse, I can guarantee you that it would be the best thing for all involved. Bottom ine we respect the final decisions of our buildung admin...it can be hard but they do have that final word.

Hi everyone,

I thank you for your suggestions. Unfortunately, she knows very well of our past and does not want to hear it. She does in-fact want total control and does not like anyone that steps on her toes. In fact the teachers are having the same problems with her that I am and it is not good. As far as going to the super, he is the one that put her in place and I'm a bit leery of that. I'm trying to be as good as I can and still get things done and hoping that this will all clear up and change some how. I hate that I had to say all that, because quite frankly it sounds crazy. People I know are trying to get me to run for school board but that is another issue. My main thing is how should it work? how do you guys function as far as boundaries and what you have say on? I feel I need to know how it should be and then push for what is right. As far as our county, I would have to look into other counties because we are small and not successful in these matters. Which is fine and is why I'm on here asking you guys!!! Thanks for trying to help us get back on track - because you and I know - its about the kids not adults!!! ;)

Hi,
I agree with Pals . I would first set up a meeting with the principal, vice principal if you have one and the PTO officers where you can sit down and discuss your concerns and goals and see where you all stand. Express your concerns to her. Give her the benefit of the doubt it's a learning experience for her as well. If after your conversation you still feel you are getting nowhere then and only then would I go to her immediate boss. You don't want to set yourself up for a miserable working experience with the new principal and she deserves the respect of approaching her first and following the chain of command.Sounds like a tough situation, I hope it works out for you all!

ericalex I respect your answer but would recommend doing it within the building first, taking it to that level can create a miserable life for any group!

I will make my response short as I am off to my pto meeting. A new principal is a very hard thing to work with, you want to keep things the way they were and often they have their own ideas. The fact the the elementary experience is not there also plays into this, maybe she is unaware of the history of the group. have you guys had any sort of sit down meeting to educate her of the past and your group listen to her goals, ideas and suggestions? That would be my first place and as far as the teachers aslo not being happy with it, like I said having anew principal is tough!
How do I know? Next month we will have our seventh on since September of 2004! Yes that is correct!

This is not how it is suppose to work. I hope you get some support from some of the other schools in your district call some of the other schools and find out if they can help you out. This would be the best soulitions to help you out. We are having the same problems at our school and i can tell you we had to go to our superintendent I hope you dont have to do this but this might be where you are headed. It seems like when these teachers become principals they have no idea what there doing and are power hungrey and very controling. Good luck.
