WE give parents the option of sending home in the backpack or arranging a time to pickup. We don't have a specific pick up time set up. Most of the time parents all have them sent home in the backpack. We have never had a problem with lost cards. Lets hope our luck doesn't change now.
pickup can be 4-6 pm or during any school event that is at night. We have an aftercare program at the school for working parents and the latest pickup time is 6pm, so we try and coordinate our evening pickup times with that.

I never send the Scrip orders home in Backpacks anymore. I did that when I first started and had a lot of trouble. Kids leave backpacks all over the place. One Holiday, a parent did not receive her Scrip until school started after the new year. Her child went over a friend's house, left the backpack and teh friend's family went away for the holidays. Now I am in the school yard in the morning and any cards not delivered go to the office. The admin then calls any remaining customers. WE are a small school, with low participation, so calling parents is not to onerous. Parents then have the option after a phone call of going to the office or having the child bring them home.
Although our school doesn't do it, others in our district do. On the order form the parent must check off if they wish the cards to be sent home with their child or if they will be picked up. Every other Wednesday is pickup day. There is a time in the afternoon and another hour in the evening to make it convenient for working parents.
Make it the parents choice of how to get them, once ordered.
